Making A Difference: Houston Sign Volunteers at the Houston Food Bank

Recently the Houston Sign team volunteered at the Houston Food Bank to give back to the City of Houston. In just a few hours, we sorted enough food to feed hundreds of children in need! This included not only Houston Sign employees but their family members as well! We took different jobs in an assembly line — from packaging products to putting the bags into boxes on pallets.

“The whole team really enjoyed giving our time to such an important organization. Everyone there was so welcoming and helpful, and it was great to see the work they do. I was surprised by just how much work we were able to get done in such a short amount of time!” said Alan Olinger after helping out.

Did you know that 1 in 5 Southeast Texan children don’t have consistent access to enough nutritious food? Many rely on schools to provide breakfast and lunch during the school year. However, these children might go home with little or no meals over the weekend. The Houston Food Bank’s Backpack Buddy program is working to solve this issue by providing nutritious, child-friendly food for school children in need. In partnership with participating school districts and members of the community, the program provides children with food sacks to take home every Friday during the school year.

Overall. This experience was a great time for employees and family members to work together and give back to the community, and we encourage others to do the same! Big thanks to our event planning committee for choosing to work with the Houston Food Bank.
